Its pretty hard, trying to keep an audience captivated with your life but, simultaneously, its very, very easy.
I'm going to try and keep my life as interesting as possible, and share with the audience as much as I can. I think one reason this autobiography might be successful is because of HOW open I am with the audience, and hopefully they'll find the strip as endearing as you do.
I was just wondering since this seems to carry over into the theme of the strip as a whole.
Not knowing what you're doing... as in the case of the party- and the girl.
It's a charming quality that seems to have won over your audience- me included.
If it's an endearing quality here, it may be an endearing quality to her. You never know.
Cartoons can be so much like real life- exaggerated or not.
Actually, I don't pay much attention to the length of my hat, the way it comes out is the way it comes out. I expect my characterization of myself to change over the years, and look forward to when it does. The hat is just one of the evolving parts that makes up my character, Allan.
And as for acting? Naw. I try to keep this as real as possible--and as accurate as possible, so no worries there.
A cartoon is the crown of exaggeration which is why I asked. I was just wondering what control you had over said exaggeration. Not to question if you know what you're doing, you clearly know what you're doing... but to wonder if you know what you're doing acting like you don't know what you're doing.
I think the cap symbolizes my mood for the day, depending on how I'm feeling when I'm drawing the comic the cap may shift in sizes or colors. Anyway, I feel it's a cartoon, so why not over exaggerate it?
that1Joo: 1. Thanks. 2. You can STILL be emo now if you want... it'll just be a little more mature version of emo. 3. Yeah, I think you're right. Figured it was worth a try. 4. I try to keep the conversations as accurate as possible to my real life. I might change some of my own words, but things others say are usually word-for-word so everyone gets the right idea. And woah. I think that is some of the best advise I've ever gotten. Now I just need to find out what she's into. 5. I know, right? Now the season's over? Dammit, I was looking forward to more! MORE!
To everyone else: Thank you guys so much. I mean, damn, that's quite humbling, all those comments. Can't say thanks enough! Thanks, thanks, thanks!
Aaaaaargh, I have a friend just like that, giving me all sorts of lousy tips & tricks and keeps going about the fact that 'yes my friend, girls, we will never understand them' Every girl so far has broken up with him tough..
Coupla things: 1- still great comic, man. 2- I shoulda been six years younger: I was emo before there was a word for it! Instead I was just that weirdly sad and aloof kid 3- Wikipedia hates webcomics, so it's unlikely that your link will last for long. It's still pretty kickin. 4- if this comic is completely accurate then Jen is totally into you. Totally. You should buy two tix to a band she likes and be like "I got a extra ticket, you wanna go?" then be like "we should get some coffee or food or somthin" after the show. Then you're in. 5- I miss the Office.
