It depends on the type of server. On some servers, monsters will not change targets while player attacks, on some, they do depending on which target does the most damage. On some servers, they plainly don't change at all. -Posted on Aug 29, 2008

I know, Meilu. But if the monster is targetting a player, another player can attack it without getting targeted. (Most weak mobs don't change their target, zombies excluded, as Ender pointed out.) -Posted on Aug 29, 2008
